Inspired by an unexpected visitor along the canal, this handcrafted Butterfly Plant Stake captures the beautiful amber, burnt orange and deep black colours of a monarch butterfly in stained glass.

Designed to perch amongst houseplants, herbs and planters, the butterfly catches the natural light and brings a little unexpected colour and wonder to the leaves around it.

Inspired by a Morning Visitor

This design began with a dance.

A butterfly circled the maker during a morning walk along the towpath – once, twice, closer each time, almost as though she was asking to be noticed.

Hours later, another – or perhaps the same traveller – drifted through the hatch of Willow Aurora and settled on a fern, wings open in the afternoon light.

It was a moment that had to be captured in glass.

Handmade Stained Glass Butterfly

Each stained glass butterfly is individually handcrafted in warm amber, burnt orange and deep black glass, recreating the striking contrast of a monarch’s wings.

The individual pieces of glass are carefully cut and joined by hand before the finished butterfly is mounted onto a slender stake, allowing it to appear as though it has just landed amongst your plants.

Natural variations within the glass and the handmade process mean that no two butterflies are exactly alike.

At approximately 30cm tall, the stake can be nestled amongst the leaves of a favourite houseplant, placed amongst herbs or added to a planter or window box.

Position it somewhere that receives natural light and the translucent coloured glass will reveal different tones and textures throughout the day.
